The C. G. Jung Institute of San Diego was born from a desire to restore something deeply valued in our community: a place where Jungian psychology could be studied, practiced, and lived in relationship with others.
Our Institute carries forward the spirit of the former Society of Jungian Analysts of San Diego (SJASD), a community that provided Jungian analytic training in San Diego in the past. Like the phoenix rising from the ashes, the C. G. Jung Institute of San Diego represents a renewal of that vision—bringing Jungian analytic training back to our region and opening it to a new generation.
A Community of Learning and Transformation
At the heart of our Institute is our training community. We believe that becoming a Jungian analyst is not only an intellectual or professional endeavor, but also a deeply personal journey. It asks us to remain curious, to encounter the unconscious, to listen deeply, and to develop our capacity to accompany others through the transformative process of analysis.
Our founding analysts bring more than 120 years of combined clinical and teaching experience in Jungian theory and practice. Over the past three decades, they have taught numerous courses exploring the work of C. G. Jung and influential Jungian thinkers including Marie-Louise von Franz, Barbara Hannah, Erich Neumann, Esther Harding, and Edward Edinger.
We bring this experience to our training with a commitment to rigor, depth, collegiality, and warmth. Our aim is to create an environment where candidates are challenged intellectually while also feeling supported, welcomed, and genuinely part of a community.
Jungian Training in San Diego
The C. G. Jung Institute of San Diego serves a large and diverse region encompassing San Diego, Riverside, and Orange counties, as well as the broader Southern California community.
Our location also gives the Institute a unique role in connecting Jungian psychology across the United States and Mexico. Situated directly on the border with Mexico and neighboring Tijuana, San Diego offers an accessible setting for individuals from Mexico who are interested in pursuing Jungian analytic training.
We envision our Institute as a place where people from different backgrounds, communities, and cultures can come together through a shared interest in the psyche and the Jungian tradition.
A Training Grounded in Jungian Psychoanalysis
Our curriculum is grounded in the fundamental competencies of Jungian psychoanalysis. We believe that a Jungian analyst needs both a strong academic foundation in psychological theory and a deep capacity to understand symbolic experience as it emerges through dreams, art, mythology, fairy tales, and the everyday life of the psyche.
Just as importantly, Jungian training involves the analyst’s own development. Through personal analysis, clinical experience, supervision, study, and engagement with the symbolic life, candidates gradually develop the capacity to recognize and accompany the profound processes of transformation that can unfold in analysis.
Our goal is not simply to teach about Jung. It is to help cultivate analysts who can encounter the psyche with depth, openness, humility, and imagination.

Our Basic Jung Seminars are offered free of charge and provide an opportunity to explore Jungian psychology, meet members of our community, and experience the kind of learning environment we value. You do not need to be ready to apply for analyst training to join us. If you are curious about Jung, interested in deepening your understanding of the psyche, or simply wondering whether this path might be right for you, we welcome you.
